OUR LOCAL STATION: AITV5,

Home and Beacon of The Splendor of the Church

The Antenna of AITV5 on the Rooftop of Aemilianum College

"What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light,
and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops."
Matthew 10:27

It is a freak of nature that a poor and remote province like Sorsogon, and the Aemilianum College, Inc [ACI] in particular, can run an effective local television station like AITV5. This is the only working TV station in the whole of Region 5 and it is so heartwarming that communication engineering students and instructors from much prominent areas like the cities of Albay, Legazpi and even the Metropolitan city of Naga are coming here to learn the success that we have. And the wonder of wonders is that this station is on way to its 8th anniversary on air.
Our secret is only one and it is so simple - Rev. Fr. Paolo Alutto, CRS! Fr. Paolo as he is lovingly referred to by the staff and students is also a freak of nature like his station. He founded the radio station 12 years ago against all odds and later added the television station at the time when many radio and local tv stations in Sorsogon were turning bubbles. This man of God is really a genius in technology and is so dedicated to his craft that he can perform the works of a score of staff all alone. Now, he can rest a little bit since many of his students and proteges can stand already on their own but the guy still serves as the soul and heart of both radio and tv station.
St. Jerome Emiliani teaching the children of Somasca
Fr. Paolo is simply following the footstep of our founder St. Jerome Emiliani who was an active apostle to the young, protector of orphans and educator of the faith during the time of military upheaval in Italy. St. Jerome gave his best to educate the young by writing his own catechetical instructions in form of question and answer and roamed around Venice, Milan and neighboring cities to build orphanages, hospitals, house for converted prostitutes, schools and training shops for young people to be prepared for manual jobs.
The Picture of the Premier The Splendor of the Church program
The picture above and the one below are the only remaining photos we have documentating The Splendor of the Church's first ever telecast. It was taped inside our studio 3 days before the actual showing with the intention of having it for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fr. Abe was alone in the 1 hour long pre-taped program. The production was very simple and moderate with the host sitting on a bamboo chair with just a single plant on his side while the background was showing the painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In the studio, the background is simply an old piece of wood painted in light blue but the views were seeing a religious icon or paintings right at the back of the host. The chubby figure of the host and him holding the Holy Bible have become trademarks of the program.

For at least 6 months the program was limited to one hour and with only Fr. Abe present to explain various aspects of the Catholic Faith. The first topic was The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, followed by the Queenship of Mary for Aug. 22 feast and later the Sacred Images, the Divinity of Christ, Primacy of Peter and others.

During that first half-year life of the program Fr. Abe was alone in the apologetic program. His only consolation was the favorable response of the Catholic viewers in the city of Sorsogon, the only coverage area of AITV5 that time. Also, the station manager Fr. Paolo and his Superior, Rev. Fr. Riccardo Germanetto, CRS had thrown their full support of the program. Until, now Italian priests are still prominent for their being champions of orthodoxy.
