THE VISIT OF SOMASCAN GENERAL SUPERIOR, THE MOST REV. FRANCO MOSCONE, CRS IN AEMILIANUM COLLEGE, Part 1 Arrival and Reception
A member of the Drums and Lyre Company prepares for the arrival of the Father General

These are part of the photos and topic that I failed to present here late last year because I had consumed my photo capacity for this Blog. Thanks be to God He has given me the privilege to increase once again my photo capacity so that now I can post more pics for our students and alumni to enjoy and also for our Somascan Fathers abroad to see. Several Somascan Fathers from abroad have told me that they appreciate a lot my work of putting these photos in the Blog with short explanations and even reflections to explain them. It gives them the opportunity to be part of our activities, of our joys and ministry. O thank you.

The Canonical Visit of Fr. General, The Most Rev. Franco Moscone, CRS in Sorsogon City started on November 11, 2009. That day the whole school was abuzz with preparations. The teachers were busy putting the finishing touches to the program and the students practicing their parts. Every time there were cars arriving almost every body were rushing to the window side to check until Bro. Eugene started giving us a blow by blow report of the guests whereabouts based on text messages from Fr. Lino.

The girls, mostly from the Elementary and High School Departments, are excited to see the Father General

In the middle of the afternoon Fr. General arrived with Fr. Gabriele and Fr. Pier Luigi. Fr. Lino intentionally let the car passed the old gate near the creek usually used for parades so that the car reached first the main entrance of the school. The entire Somascan Community of Aemilianum were on hand to meet the General. He each gave us a hug and we kissed his hand as a sign of respect to our most senior clergy. The High School Principal, Mrs. Sesbreno and the College Dean Dr. Forte were also present.

Upon the arrival of Fr. General the Drums and Lyre Corps started playing their instruments giving festive atmosphere to the area. Then they started ligning up in formation ahead of us. The school officials and religious also formed the line with the General at the end and we all marched to the Gymnasium where to the suprise of the General all students from Prep School of St. Jerome Academy, the Elementary, High School and College were gathered together with the faculty members in front and the Somascan Sisters.
The Little Drummer Boys are very excited too

The entrance of the General was welcomed by thunderous clappings and spontaneous ovations. He was like a very popular actor given public acclamations. Well, it helps that our Father General, according to the teachers, is very handsome and is an amiable person... gifted with a pleasing pesonality. When the clappings died down the General was given a place of honor on a reserved seats for the guests and the school officials.

Boys are boys even on important duties, they are ever playful and joyful
Then follows the 10 minutes performance of the Drums and Lyre boys and girls in front of the guests. It culminated in a semi-classic dance that paved the way for the singing of the National Anthem. Then the short program followed hosed by Mrs. Joy Eleazar.

The program presented several Folk Dances native to the Philippines perfomed by the High School group dressed in traditional costumes. Then, from High School also Ms. Celine Angelica Domdom and Ms. Sinead Belmonte belted 3 modern songs. They successfully hit the very high notes to the delight of the crowd. It made the Father General stood from his chair and gave the singers a paternal hug of appreciation, speaking in halting but clear English: "Verrry Good... Verrry Good!" Ha, ha, ha...

After the performances Fr. Franco delivered his Message which was translated by Fr. Pier Luigi thanking every body for the warm and beautiful welcome accorded him. He said that as a General Superior this is the first time that he received such a wonderful reception, literally the entire school gathered to show their love and affection.
