The disciple serves others, Jesus offers a new way of being disciples, said Benedict XVI in his homily for Mass in Santiago de Compostela. Where there is no commitment to others, the Pope said, there are forms of exploitation and arrogance that leave no room for an authentic integral human promotion. Looking to Europe to Santiago de Compostela, a pilgrimage of hope and light, the Pope said that God is not man's antagonist or an enemy of freedom. Denying God means living in the shadows and Europe must open up to God and work with His help to reaffirm the dignity of man.
